The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is the Munising Michigan area's main attraction. Sandstone cliffs delight thousands of guests each year. The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is the 1st National Lakeshore authorized by President Lyndon B Johnson in 1966.

The Pictured Rocks rests along the Lake Superior shoreline and has a spanse of over 40 miles in length. The "pictures" that occur are caused by minerals in the rock. As they surface, different minerals cause various colors in the rock - hence the name. Many of the cliffs reach a height over 200 feet.
